Life on the Threshold of Illness and Death
with Anita Charton
21 – 23 October 2011
The aim of this course to explore the how Biographical Counselling can be called upon to accompany another person facing life threatening illness. In this context, we will consider Rudolf Steiner’s indications in what he called ‘hygienic occultism:’ that in an illness we are faced with a condensed biographical process. In other words, during an illness the same forces are at work that underlie the unfolding of our biography between birth and death.
Participants will have the opportunity to look at their own experiences of facing serious illness, and what it means to work with people who are confronted with death. The theme will be explored through theoretical contributions and conversations, biographical counselling practice in small groups and movement improvisation.
This course is a weekend module within Year 3 of the Diploma Course in Biographical Counselling. It is open to all counsellors/psychotherapists who are interested in exploring some approaches of biographical counselling and who wish to deepen their understanding of the threshold of illness and death and their capacity to meet another at this threshold.
